The season for fashion never goes out of style, which is why Alcorn’s Gentlemen and Queens (GQ) Modeling Organization brought their talents to Utica, Mississippi on November 3rd. The models were invited to Hinds Community College’s (HCC) campus for their first annual College Fashion Week Senior Showcase. Student designers from the Hinds Utica Fashion Department showcased their designs ranging from chic to modern as well as an eclectic array of styles.
GQ performed a brief strut walk routine during the show’s intermission. The organization’s models were dressed in a variety of Alcorn apparel, showcasing their unique individual fashion senses. Hinds Utica Fashion Department Instructor, Jontea Davis, stated, “It was an absolute honor to have another form of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) representation adjacent to showcasing modeling and fashion.” GQ contributed to history by being the first university and modeling organization to participate in the College Fashion Week Senior Showcase at HCC.
Fall 2022 newcomer initiate of GQ and Hinds Utica alumni, Joseph Anthony, stated, “This was my first show experience as a new member of GQ. Having the opportunity to visit my alma mater while participating in something I am passionate about was truly amazing.”
“It is important for GQ to make appearances at other schools and events because it allows us an opportunity to expand our platform and present ourselves as models in a new light,” says 2-year GQ model, Donjaiya Mathews.
