The Alcorn State Lady Braves (3-3, 7-14) looked to win their fourth straight game of the 2019 season at the Alcorn Softball Complex on Tuesday, March 26th against the Rust College Bearcats in a doubleheader with the first game taking place at 1:00 pm. Entering the competition the Lady Braves showed no mercy as they flexed their muscle against their Gulf Coast Atlantic Conference (GCAC) opponents.
Alcorn State led from the start as they drummed up an 8-0 score in the first inning. Keeping their foot on the gas, the Lady Braves added 4 more runs to extend their lead to 12-0 at the end of the second inning. Alcorn relaxed in the third inning, only scoring one run. In the fourth inning, the Bearcats awakened slightly as they brought in one run to Alcorn’s 4 runs in the third inning. The game was called in the 5th inning due to the Mercy Rule and the final score was 17-1, Alcorn.
The Lady Braves’ Ambria Dorsey pitched 4 innings, had 2 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 7 strikeouts, 14 at bat, 15 batters faced and threw 59 pitches. Alexis Ramirez aided as she pitched for 1 inning, had 1 base on ball, 3 at bats, 4 batters faced and threw 17 pitches. Rust College’s Arnisha Dobbey pitched for 4 innings, had 12 hits, 13 runs, 9 earned runs, 7 base on balls, 21 at bat, 30 batters faced and threw 102 pitches. Following her was Keaturah Wright with 4 runs, 4 earned runs, 3 base on balls, 4 batters faced and 16 pitches were thrown.
The second game of the doubleheader began at 3:00 pm and was a repeat of the first game as the Lady Braves trounced the Lady Bearcats 17-0. Alcorn’s Paige Taylor had a stunning game as she pitched for 5 innings, had 1 hit and 10 strikeouts. Rust College’s Arnisha Dobbey stayed at it as she pitched for four innings, had 11 runs, 11 earned runs, and 5 base on balls. Keaturah Wright followed with 2 innings pitched, 5 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned runs, and 4 base on balls.
The Lady Braves continue their home stand as they face Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Mississippi Valley State (0-7, 2-23) in a 3 game series on Friday, March 29th at 3:00 pm and a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30th beginning at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm at the Alcorn Softball Complex.
