Lady Braves Lose Home Opener

After a brutal 10 game away schedule, the Alcorn State University (ASU) Lady Braves Volleyball team (0-11, 0-0) returned to ‘The Reservation’ for some home cooking to take on the Dillard Bleu Devils (4-2,0-0) on Tuesday, September 21st at 6:00 pm in The Davey L. Whitney Complex. 

The Lady Braves took the first set of the night, 25-15, with three kills provided by #17 Mikenzie Young-Mullins followed by two more kills each from #12 Jeda Curry and #13 Tiara Adams.

Opening the second set with two long rallies, the first ball rally of the set was taken by Dillard, 19-14. The Lady Braves allowed the Bleu Devils to slip past their fingers in the second set giving them the win, 25-20, followed by the third set for the game, 25-23.

Adams opened up the third set with a killer spike but the first two rallies of the set were taken by Dillard with the following rally being taken by Alcorn. Unfortunately the Lady Braves lost the third set and moved on to the next.

At the beginning of the fourth set ASU came up with 5 points early winning the set, 25-21. Tied at 2, both teams prepared to play the fifth and final set for the victory.

The Bleu Devils won the set and game 15-8, 3-2. Some statistical leaders for the Braves were Curry with 15 kills, #25 Simone Barren had 4 blocks, #21 Mariah Wilmoth had 12 digs and Young-Mullins had 6 aces.

The Lady Braves will play Dillard again on September 23rd at 5:00 pm at Tougaloo College due to a home and home schedule. The Bleu Devils are playing their home games at Tougaloo College due to repairs being completed on their gymnasium.
