Lady Braves Lose to Tigers 79-63

The Alcorn State University Lady Braves (3-20, 2-9) faced off against the Grambling State University Lady Tigers (10-13, 7-4) at 5:30 pm at the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Monday, February 11th looking to make a run in the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference).

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early start as they outscored the Lady Braves 23-13 in the first quarter. Being lead by, Shakyla Hill, Grambling State continued their tenacious momentum. They kept the pressure on as they outscored Alcorn State in the 3rd and 4th quarters by a total of 13 points. With a desire to win, the Lady Braves gave everything they had in the 4th quarter by outscoring the Lady Tigers by 7 points. Although they gave a valiant effort, Alcorn came up short as they were defeated 79-63.

The Alcorn State Lady Braves were lead by Senior guard, Jada Hargrove, as she poured in 15 points and dealt out 8 assists. Following her was Senior guard, De’Asia Brown, with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Grambling State was lead by guard, Shakyla Hill, with 22 points, 11 steals, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Trailing close behind her was Jazmin Boyd with 17 points.

The Lady Braves will be back in action Saturday, February 16th as they travel to Itta Bena, Mississippi to compete against the Mississippi Valley State University Lady Devilettes (4-18, 3-8).
