Lessons in Love

We’ve grown so much
Look at me and you
We’ve built a love
Thats thorough and true
Through understanding
Empathy and compassion
Despite moments of heat
And fury filled passion
I think I’ve truly found
A love that’s everlasting
And if not,
Then I’ll have no choice but to think of you
When my kids ask about first loves
I’ll have a story or two
I’ll have to tell them about
Those night when my tears flowed like the rain,
When overthinking and insecurities
Caused physical pain and mental drain
I’ll have to tell them
About smiling when the world’s crumbling
And having somebody
Who despises to hear your stomach rumbling
I’ll have to tell them all about
Our midday walks to the park
Cause money was tight
But we needed a date to see the light in the dark
I’ll teach them to keep their heart guarded
But to never be scared
Because loving yourself is amazing
But never forget love is meant to be shared
