Let the Festivities Begin: BraveFest 2024

Alcorn State University (ASU) held its annual BraveFest Week between Sunday, March 24th, through Wednesday, March 27th. This year’s events were hosted by Alcorn’s Student Government Association (SGA), Alcorn’s Campus Activity Board (CAB) and the Royal Court.

This year’s BraveFest week offered students career opportunities, support of small businesses, and fun activities.

The events kicked off on Sunday, March 24th, with the Mister and Miss Alcorn Pageant at 5:00 pm in the Dr. Rudolph E. Waters Building Auditorium.

On Monday, March 25th, the Brave Family Feud and the Silent Headphone Party were canceled due to inclement weather.

On Tuesday, March 26th at 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm, the Food Truck Festival Block Party took place along the Horseshoe of Alcorn’s campus. Students were also able to promote their small businesses from tents and tables in the area.

On Wednesday, March 27th from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Club Café took place but with a twist. There was a karaoke event for students to showcase their vocals by singing their favorite songs. The Career Expo also took place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Dr. Rudolph E. Waters Sr. Classroom Building.

The most anticipated event, the BraveFest Concert, took place later that night in the Davey L. Whitney Complex (New Gym) from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The concert featured local artists Squirt and Lil Bailey, who opened for the headliners, K. Michelle and Lil Boosie. The concert was free of charge for students, faculty, and staff.

ASU Sophomore Equanyae Warren stated, “BraveFest is the time when the semester is winding down and everyone is excited. The performances and the food trucks were my favorite parts of this year’s festivities.”
