Morgan Haynes: From Aspiration to Reality

Morgan Haynes, daughter to Mark Perrin and DeCynthia Haynes is a Senior Biology Pre-Professional major at Alcorn State University (ASU).

Hailing from the small town of Monticello, Mississippi, Haynes has always been drawn to the medical field. “I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, and studying Biology brings me one step closer to that goal,” she shared. Fascinated by the human body, she views her studies as more than just academics—they’re a foundation for making a meaningful impact on people’s lives.

An active student leader, Haynes is a member of several campus organizations, including Alpha Chi Sigma, IMPACT, The National Society of Leadership and Success, Kem Club, Beta Beta Beta Kappa Omega, The Impact Movement, and The Coalition of Women of Color in STEM. Her dedication to both academics and service is evident in her commitment to these organizations, which have shaped her leadership and professional growth.

During her time at Alcorn, Haynes gained hands-on experience through an internship at UMMC with Mississippi INBRE. Her research focused on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and its effects on reproductive health, pregnancy outcomes, and offspring development. “This experience gave me valuable skills in research methodology, data analysis, and health tracking,” she explained. “But more importantly, it reinforced the need for better diagnostic tools and treatments for women affected by PCOS.”

The road to pharmacy school hasn’t been without challenges. “The biggest obstacle for me was managing my anxiety during the application and interview process,” she admitted. “I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I reminded myself that I had worked hard to get here for a reason.” Through preparation, practice, and faith, she overcame her nerves and confidently pursued the next step in her journey.

A quote that keeps her grounded is Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” She finds strength in these words, knowing that faith and perseverance will guide her toward her purpose.

One of her greatest inspirations is her mother, who has been a nurse at UMMC for over 25 years. “She has shown me the true definition of a hardworking woman,” she said. “Her dedication, resilience, and compassion have motivated me to never give up on my dreams.”

After graduating from Alcorn, she plans to further her education by pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at William Carey University. With a passion for patient care and pharmaceutical research, she is eager to make a lasting impact in the healthcare field. “I look forward to making a difference in people’s lives,” she affirmed, determined to turn her aspirations into reality.
