A Quiet Place: Day One is a prequel of the popular movie franchise A Quiet Place. The movie was released on June 28, 2024 and has grossed $253 million since its release date. The film is 1 hour and 39 minutes long and features Lupita Nyong’o, who is best known for her role in Black Panther, and Joseph Quinn who is best known for his role in Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.
The movie is set in New York City and follows the journey of the main character Samira (Lupita Nyong’o) during an apocalypse. Alongside the apocalypse, Samira also faces terminal cancer. The plot of the film is the Earth is invaded by aliens who initiate their attacks on various noises such as speaking, crackling, screaming, etc. Eric (Joseph Quinn) enters later on in the film as Samira’s companion.
Though the film was directed very well, it seemed very repetitive to the other versions of A Quiet Place. I believe that if the movie were longer and discussed a deeper back story behind Samira’s condition and Eric’s journey before the two met, it would have made it more interesting. The film at times seemed rushed which left an excessive amount of plot holes.
The movie is best suited for people interested in alien/horror films. Although it was not very scary, it still could be found to be very interesting to some.
