Xavier Landum, better known as, BigXthaPlug is a 26-year-old Hip-Hop artist from Dallas, Texas. He is signed to UnitedMasters and has been releasing music since 2019. His latest album is ‘Take Care’ (Deluxe) which was released on October 11, 2024, and consists of 18 songs and is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes long.
Of the 18 songs, there are four that really stand out. They are “The Largest”, “Change Me”, “Law & Order”, and “Holy Ground”. The large and in charge rapper has a very distinctive voice which commands the full attention from his listeners. BigXthaPlug has the presence of a superstar in the making and with him releasing this kind of music it will ultimately get him the accolades that he definitely deserves.
The song getting the most traction from the album is “The Largest” which showcases BigXthaPlug’s lyrical talents. He blends street harmony and just a pinch of old school style with the beat. His rhythmic tone and flow of the song combined with his effervescent appeal reveals why it was the first song released from the album.
“Change Me” begins with an intro that is extremely powerful and sung with passion deep from within the soul. Plug comes in and discusses how he overcame obstacles throughout his life to become the person who he is now. His flow is undeniable, and the song is completely relatable to most people.
What made me enjoy the “Law & Order” track was that it used the theme song from the Law & Order franchise throughout the song. Suffice to say this was my favorite show growing up. The beat was made into this Funky 1970’s piece with a lot of zeal that Plug flowed over aimlessly.
“Holy Ground” featuring Jessie Murph begins with her harmonizing over very poignant words about empowerment. Plug enters the fray and drops numerous gems on life, falling off and coming back from it. The man is a beast on the mic.
Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Hip-Hop needs more of this. It’s refreshing to hear from an artist that doesn’t conform to the music industries’ mold of what a rapper should look and sound like. My only gripe with the album is that the songs are too short. It’s as though right when I began vibing with a song it was at the end. But other than that, LONG LIVE BigXthaPlug!
