Office of Global Programs Presents Virtual Study Abroad Fair

The Office of Global Programs hosted a Virtual Study Abroad Fair via Zoom on Monday, February 28th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Study Abroad Providers presented information about their programs for the Spring 2022 semester along with study abroad options for students.

Dr. Dovi Alipoe, Director of Global Programs, gave a brief overview of what Global Programs offers for students at the University. The Global Programs partners with Study Abroad Providers to provide students with exciting opportunities to live and learn in another country while earning academic credit at Alcorn. The eligibility requirements of the program includes studying full-time with the University towards a degree, a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5, and good academic standing. The program is not open to Freshmen nor Graduating Seniors. The four pillars of the Study Abroad Program are safety and security, academic fit, financial feasibility and student’s interest in a given region of the world.

Presenters from numerous locations gave an introduction to what each program offered. Among the presenters were the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS), G-MEO of China and Taiwan, Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI), SHC Italy Center, the International Studies Abroad (ISA) and the Education Abroad Network (TEAN), to name a few.

Most programs have different locations including AIFS which administers 15 different locations around the country where students can choose to study abroad from. The AIFS introduces an 8 or 12-week study abroad program with an option of choosing virtual learning. Due to COVID-19, permission is granted to study abroad on a case-by-case basis. If students are interested in choosing virtual, it is recommended to check early with the Office of Global Programs of the intended destination.
