On Wednesday, September 24th, at the Davey L. Whitley Complex from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Alcorn State University (ASU), the Office of Career Services and Pre-Professional Programs hosted a Career Expo and Internship Fair to give students the opportunity to meet with different companies and universities that offer job opportunities and graduate schools.
Some universities and corporations that attended the event were Xavier University of Louisiana, Meharry School of Applied Computational Sciences, Rankin County School District, Laurel School District, University of Tennessee at Martin, Altria, Teach for America, Cargill, Wayne-Sanderson Farms, Tyson Foods, Jackson Police Department, Mississippi College School of Law, and more.
Rhoshunda Ellis, a Career Services Specialist at Alcorn, stated, “We try to get as many employers or graduate schools to come to the students and give them opportunities that they probably wouldn’t get just being on their own.” She added, “Each year the students are becoming more aware of the opportunities that are out there and being able to advocate for themselves and what they want for their careers.”
Senior Psychology major, Errion Glenn, stated, “It’s not what I expected but I really loved the atmosphere, it’s very educational.” He continued, “I passed on my resume to numerous companies here and even did mock interviews. I’m thankful that Alcorn prepared me for this in advance.”
