You know you have a paper due, but there’s a party tonight and all your friends are going so you decide to put your work off until later so you can enjoy the fun tonight. Yeah, you just procrastinated. Don’t be shocked, you know what I’m talking about. Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task which needs to be accomplished. It is the practice of doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, or carrying out less urgent tasks instead of more urgent ones, thus putting off impending tasks to a later time.

Now don’t get all defensive, we all do it, but I’m here to give you a few tips on how to avoid procrastination and do what you have to do. So here they are:

  1. Do it first thing in the morning.
  2. Try doing it every day.
  3. Have someone keep you company.
  4. Make preparations and assemble the proper tools.
  5. Commit to the task.
  6. First things first.
  7. Reflect on the great feeling you’ll get when you’ve finished.

Now each of these tips might not be as realistic for you as for most, but come on, procrastination is a big problem that we all deal with in life. The most important thing here is to get your task done in a timely manner and avoid having to do it at a later time. The 7th tip should definitely be motivation to end procrastination and focus on what you’re actually supposed to be doing. Good Luck.
