The Alcorn State University (ASU) School of Business hosted “Conversations with the Dean” on Wednesday, October 9th, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the Dr. Rudolph Waters Classroom Building at the Brian K. Johnson Auditorium. Students checked in and filled the seats, eager to hear advice and insight from successful professionals.
The program was led by Dr. Antwon D. Woods, Dean of the School of Business, and featured three accomplished panelists, Dr. Fred Kency, Jr., MD and CEO of Kency Medical Services, PLLC; Michael Carraway, CPA and Founding Member of Carraway Cooley, PLLC; and Erica Young, Real Estate Broker and Owner of Haus of Bonaparte Realty. Each shared their experiences in their respective fields with stories that offered inspiration and real-world perspectives to students preparing for their own careers.
A student moderator guided the conversation, asking each panelist about how they got started, the rules and regulations in their professions, and the challenges that they faced. The discussion also touched on maintaining a healthy work-life balance and the importance of persistence. Students had the opportunity to engage directly, asking thoughtful questions about career growth and professional success.
After the panel discussion, the floor opened for additional questions from students and guests, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere. The session ended with the presentation of gifts to the panelists as a token of appreciation for their time and insight. Before closing, Dr. Woods announced that the next “Conversation with the Dean” will take place on November 6th, encouraging everyone to attend.
Sponsored by Hope Credit Union, the event reinforced the School of Business’s mission to prepare students for brighter futures in leadership, entrepreneurship, and professional excellence.
