For Seattle Zimmerman, stepping onto Alcorn State University’s campus felt like walking into the start of something special. Born in Miramar and raised in the heart of Miami, Florida, Seattle brought her bright energy, ambition, and love for people to Lorman, Mississippi and she’s already made a name for herself as Miss Freshman.
A Biology Pre-Nursing major, Seattle’s journey to Alcorn was guided by her desire to care for others. “I chose Alcorn because I knew I wanted to major in Nursing, and I heard Alcorn had an amazing program,” she shared. “It’s also closer to home, which was really important to me. But what really made me want to come here was hearing how Alcorn feels like one big family. I’m such a family-oriented person, so I knew it would be the right place.
Before Alcorn, Seattle attended West Broward High School and Pearl High School, where she built a reputation for being friendly, outgoing, and dependable. She’s always been the type of person who lifts up those around her; a quality that shines through in her new leadership role. As Miss Freshman, Seattle’s goal is to make sure everyone in her class feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
“Being Miss Freshman means more than just wearing a sash and crown,” she said. “It’s about being there for my classmates and creating a welcoming space for all of us. College can be a big adjustment, especially when you’re far from home, so I want people to feel like they belong just as I do.”
When she’s not focused on her studies or campus events, Seattle enjoys embracing her creative side and indulging in her favorite hobbies. “I love to online shop, get my hair done, do makeup, and dress up,” she said with a smile. “I also like to eat good food, do hair, and play games. I really just enjoy life and try to make the most out of every day.”
Seattle’s fun-loving personality and natural confidence have made her a standout on campus, but it’s her warmth and sincerity that truly defines her. Whether she’s chatting with friends in the café or greeting new students, she has a way of making people feel comfortable and valued.
Looking ahead, Seattle hopes to use her time at Alcorn to grow academically, personally, and spiritually. “I’m so grateful to be here,” she said. “Alcorn already feels like home to me. I’ve met so many amazing people, and I can’t wait to see what the next few years have in store. I just want to keep making my family proud and keep being the best version of myself.”
From the vibrant streets of Miami to the family-oriented campus of Alcorn, Seattle Zimmerman is proving that no matter where you come from, when you lead with the heart, the right place will always feel like home.
