The Annual Organization Fair held by the Student Government Association (SGA) took place in the Student Union Ballroom on September 5th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Students were able to learn about campus organizations and network with leaders and members.
Alcorn State University (ASU) offers 60+ student clubs and organizations. This Fair, in contrary to the past few years, featured organizations that were recently reinstated. Academic clubs, athletic programs, Fraternities, Sororities, Military organizations, and more were there to recruit and inform prospective members. In turn, leaders were able to gain exposure for their club, which was especially beneficial for new and rechartered organizations. “The Fair epitomizes everything that this campus has to offer into one event. Tables are set up and the students have the freedom to research each organization and its values, and see how they would align with it,” says Tahari Ross, a Senior member of ASU H.E.R.O.S. and the Brave Student Solution. “I recommend the Organization Fair to all students no matter the classification because it allows them to find where they fit in and gives them the opportunity to meet people with similar interests.”
All organization presidents and advisors had to attend the Solid Gold Leadership training, which helps them to maintain their active status on campus and sharpen their leadership skills. Every club in attendance must remain in good standing with the University’s expectations and guidelines in order to participate in the Fair.
“The Organization Fair had a lot of opportunities that I love to see every year,” says Ariah Pendleton, who serves as the President of the Psychology Society and a member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. “It was very encouraging to see how many students were interested in the organizations that were provided.”
