SGA Hosts Annual Organization Fair

On Tuesday, August 28th, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, the Annual Organization Fair was hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) in the Student Union Ballroom at Alcorn State University (ASU). Each organization made itself available to connect and inform students about its purpose and goals.

This year’s Fair consisted of 28 tables which was a slight decline from last year. Camron Parker, a Senior Business Administration major and the current Mr. Alcorn, shared his perspective on this year’s decline by stating, “I think if we (SGA) are able to get all of the organizations on campus to participate, promote the event properly and do our due diligence as far as attracting more students, then I know that the Fair will be even more successful next year.”

Despite this decrease, the ballroom was filled with an abundance of students, ranging from Freshmen to Seniors. The organizations present were able to speak to people about how they play an active and integral role in the student body and residential life. Health Educators Reaching Other Students, H.E.R.O.S., which was one of the organizations attending the Fair, is highly important to the safety of students on campus. Vice President Dekalah Jackson expounded on the organization’s purpose by stating, “I think H.E.R.O.S. is very important because we promote safe sex on campus and we also focus on mental and physical health, blood drives, and breast cancer awareness.”
