On Tuesday, February 8th, at 6:00 pm the Student Government President and the Administration of Alcorn State University (ASU) held a Town Hall Meeting in the Student Union Ballroom.
The crowd of over 100 individuals consisted of students, faculty and staff members gathered to hear from the panel of administrators to get answers to their questions.
The panel consisted of Dr. Felicia M. Nave, the 20th President of ASU, Dr. Tracy Cook, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Dr. Ontario Wooden, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Cornelius Wooten, Senior Vice President for Finance, Administrative Services and Operations and Larry Orman, Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
Some topics discussed at the gathering were online courses, parking, availability of classes, COVID-19, and campus safety to name a few.
This event was orchestrated by the 64th Student Government Association President (SGA), Jaquerius Howard. Howard stated, “I decided to partner with the University’s administration to host the meeting as part of my campaign promise which was to amplify student voices and work to bridge the gap between campus administration and students. Howard allowed students to submit their questions electronically through a link to make sure everyone had the opportunity to ask the questions they needed answered.
An attendee at the meeting, Senior Tyriney Marshall, stated, “I think the Town Hall Meeting was a step in the right direction in offering transparency to the student body from the administration. I am anticipating seeing how the additions discussed will impact our University.”
