On January 28, 2017 at 3:00 pm the Alcorn State University Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band participated in the 15th annual Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. The battle featured marching bands from 8 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) from across the country.
The Honda Battle of the Bands began in January of 2003 and in order to participate in the Battle, the bands must be nominated and have enough votes casted for them to attend. The voting process lasts from September to October. The 8 schools with the highest number of votes get an invitation to the Battle.
The universities in attendance this year were Alcorn State University from Lorman, Mississippi; Alabama State University from Montgomery, Alabama; Alabama A&M University from Huntsville, Alabama; Benedict College from Columbia, South Carolina; Bethune-Cookman University from Daytona Beach, Florida; North Carolina A&T University from Greensboro, North Carolina; Texas Southern University from Houston, Texas and Winston-Salem State University from Winston Salem, North Carolina.
The bands were judged on their drilling, precision and choreography during their field shows. Although the bands were judged, no winner was selected. Each band competed for the favor of the audience.
