Greatest Homecoming Of All Time! Brave Edition

Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted its 2022 Homecoming between Sunday, October 16th – Saturday, October 22nd. This year’s theme was “The Big-League: Alcorn’s Greatest Ever Homecoming”. Alumni and students gathered to celebrate the joy that is ever present on ‘The Reservation’.

Homecoming officially began on Sunday, October 16th with “Campus Chapel Service” from 10:30 am – 11:30 am in the Oakland Memorial Chapel. From 11:30 am – 1:00 pm “Brunch In The Café” was hosted in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall followed by the “Color Mania” from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Yard/Campus Green. The day ended with “Braves Got Talent” hosted by Residence Life at the E.E. Simmons Old Gym from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Monday, October 17th started with “Kick Off “The G.H.O.A.T 2.0” from 7:00 am – 8:00 am at the North Campus Welcome Center Entrance. There was the “Are You Wet Yet? Foam Party” at 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at The Yard/Campus Green and lastly, “Scary Movie” (Midnight Movie) was held from 10:00 pm – 11:45 pm at the Special Event Parking Lot.

On Tuesday, October 18th the festivities began with “A Brave Start” Coffee and Donuts from 8:00 am – 10:00 am. Later during the day was the “Ballin & Beatz with DJ Teachone” from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the James L. Bolden Student Union Building Ballroom. The day concluded with “Midnight Breakfast” from 9:30 pm – 12:00 am at the Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall.

Wednesday, October 19th brought the “Drip or Drown Café Edition” from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility. Later during the day from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm was the “I Think I Love ‘EM” (Sexual Informational) at the James L. Bolden Student Union Building Ballroom. Finally, there was the “Aux Cord Wars” from 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm at the E.E. Simmons Old Gym.

On Thursday, October 20th the “Paparazzi” events began with the “Screwed Up Selfie Challenge Scavenger Hunt” from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at various campus historical sites. Next was the “Grab-N-Go Southern BBQ On The Green” from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm at the Yard/Campus Green. Later, “The Coronation of Mr. and Miss Alcorn State University” was held at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Arena Complex beginning at 7:00 pm. Afterwards, there was the “Homecoming Ball” from 9:00 pm – 12:00 am at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Arena Complex.

Friday, October 21st was the “Naming Dedication” at 8:30 am at the Myrlie Wiley Evers Williams Honor Program. Following that was the “Ribbon Cutting Ceremony” starting at 9:15 am at Rowan Hall. At 11:00 am the “Open House” was held at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Arena Complex. Also, at 11:00 am was the “Authors of Alcorn Celebration” at the Medgar Evers Auditorium in the J.D. Boyd Library. From 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm the “ASUNAA Homecoming Welcome Reception” was held at the Holiday Inn on Cypress Carter Boulevard in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Finally, the day ended with the “Who Run It? Step Show” from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm at the Davey L. Whitney HPER Arena Complex.

On Saturday, October 22nd the “Homecoming Parade” started the day off at 9:00 am – 10:00 am at the Oakland Memorial Chapel. Later at 2:00 pm was the “Homecoming Football Game” which was held at Spinks–Casem Stadium. The Braves played against the Texas Southern University Tigers. “Although we didn’t win the game I had a great time my first year at Alcorn for Homecoming,” stated Kyia Short, a Junior transfer student at ASU.
