Student Affairs Host Developing Leaders Intentionally Conference

On Wednesday, April 12th, located in Alcorn State University’s (ASU) Student Union Ballroom from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm, the Developing Leaders Intentionally Conference took place. Hosted by Student Affairs, leaders from around campus were gathered to attend this Conference in hopes of improving their leadership skills. Teron D. Bowman, the founder of Focusedimensions, was the guest speaker of the event.

Bowman, who is a 1995 graduate of ASU and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., grasped at a young age what it meant to become a leader in his community and decided to use his voice to enlighten younger generations.

The Conference was designed to be an interactive and informative opportunity for leaders around Alcorn to learn about their leadership skill set and the importance of being good leaders.

Many participants of the event were Student Government Association (SGA) representatives and Royal Court elects. Jillian Mills, the 97th Miss Alcorn State University, spoke to the audience about the adversity that she faced while running for Miss Alcorn and how she overcame it. “I was faced with a lot of adversity during my campaign but when it came time to prep for it, I just prayed about it, and asked God to show me signs that if it’s meant to be it will be, and I just wanted to be the best leader that I could be,” stated Mills.

Also, Arrington Robinson, the 3rd Mr. Alcorn State University, spoke about why he wanted to run in the elections and become Mr. Alcorn. He stated, “I just wanted to be a great role model for my peers and for my younger siblings. I also wanted to push myself and I believe that running for Mr. Alcorn did that for me.”

To conclude the Conference, Bowman went from table to table asking questions and interacting with the audience members giving them his perspectives on how they could improve upon their skill set.
