Sydney Johnson’s story begins in New Orleans, Louisiana, a city known for its rich culture and strong sense of community. Growing up as an only child, Johnson found herself immersed in creativity and connection. From an early age, she was drawn to the power of storytelling, finding her voice through different mediums.
As she moved through her high school years, Johnson’s creative path began to take shape, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she discovered a passion for broadcasting. While many struggled with the limitations of lockdown, she used the time to develop her skills in media, learning how to tell stories that would resonate. Her dedication paid off when she earned an award for broadcasting by the end of high school, a moment that solidified her desire to pursue media as a career.
Her creativity didn’t stop with broadcasting. Johnson also fell in love with photography, using her camera to capture the world around her in new and exciting ways. Whether behind the lens or on a broadcast, her goal is always the same which is to tell stories that matter.
Now a student at Alcorn State University (ASU), Johnson is continuing to grow as a leader and storyteller. A Spring 2024 initiate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she’s found a sisterhood that shares her values of service and excellence. Her commitment to her community shines through in all that she does.
At Alcorn, Johnson serves as President of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and proudly holds the title of Miss NABJ, where she represents and amplifies the voices of her fellow students. She’s also a member of H.E.R.O.E.S., continuing her commitment to service and leadership.
Now living in Mobile, Alabama, she carries the spirit of New Orleans with her. Her journey is one of growth, creativity, and purpose, as she continues to use her voice and her talents to inspire and uplift those around her. With a camera in hand and a vision for the future, Johnson is just getting started.
