The Myrlie Ever-Williams Honors Program Sponsors Disney On The Yard

On Tuesday, September 23rd, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, the Disney College Program Informational, which is sponsored by Alcorn State University’s (ASU) Myrlie Ever-Williams (MEW) Honors Program, was held in the Rudolph Waters Classroom Building.

Students learned about Disney’s internship program and its benefits from Kenneth Person, General Manager, Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney Resort and Recruiter, Bethany Cobbs. Any major can apply to work at the amusement park. The program teaches and enhances transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and critical thinking so that current and former participants can have their own advantages in the competitive world. During the internship, students can receive credit for college courses, certificates, and the opportunity to network with individuals from every part of the company.

The internship includes 18 different roles/jobs, which will be announced 4 weeks before the arrival date. Interns will have a starting pay of $18 an hour and will be paid weekly, working 30 to 50 hours each week. Transportation is complementary for housing residents. Housing rent ranges from $227 to $275 per person per week. On the academic side, there is time provided for an independent study hall and proctoring exams. Dr. Wandra Arrington, Director of the Honors Program at Alcorn, stated, “This is a wonderful opportunity for students to receive an internship and learn about all of their career aspects.”

The requirements to apply for the Disney College Program include being enrolled in a college or university, or have graduated in the last 24 months, and be 18 years of age or older. Applications for the Spring internship are now open. Jaylon McDougal, a Junior majoring in Agriculture Science and a member of the Animal Science Club, stated, “The event was very captivating and what really caught my attention was the fact that housing is provided. It sounds like a lot of fun which can be extremely fulfilling.”
