Winless in Lorman

This week the Alcorn State University (ASU) Braves (0-2, 0-5) got some home cooking as they played their first home game of the season on Saturday, October 6th, at 3:00 pm at Spinks-Casem Stadium against Western Division Leaders, the Prairie View A&M (PV) Panthers (3-0, 4-2) to similar results.

PV took the lead first in the first quarter at the 11:00 mark as Kicker/Punter Aiden Webb nailed a 21-yard field goal to make the score 3-0, Panthers. Not to be outdone, Braves’ Kicker Lorenzo Garcia kicked a 30-yard field goal tying the score up at 3.

The second quarter saw the Panthers score first with the Braves answering right back making the score 10-6 at halftime.

Entering the third quarter Alcorn scored at the 7:07 mark when Running Back Reggie Davis scored on a 2-yard run but due to a failed Point After Touchdown (PAT) the score was now 10-12, Braves.

The fourth quarter was full of excitement with Place Kicker Diego Alfaro booting a 44-yard field goal at the 14:54 mark making the final score 13-12, Prairie View.

The Braves finished with 270 yards of total offense. The passing leader was Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert who completed the game with 11 completions for 176 yards. Running Back Reggie Davis finished with a high of 41-yards rushing while Ja’Coby Matthews finished with 4 receptions for 88 yards. Defensively, Linebacker Stemarion Edwards led all tackles with 8.

Alcorn returns to Spinks-Casem Stadium on Saturday, October 11th at 2:00 pm for Homecoming to take on the Lincoln University (CA) Oaklanders (0-2, 0-5). You can listen to the game on WPRL 91.7 FM.
