Throughout the United States’ 238 year history it has been involved in two world wars. World War I saw us enter due to American ships being attacked by German submarines. This was a valid reason to become involved. In World War II, the United States became involved after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Over the years, the countries formed alliances where war is never the first choice when a conflict arises. The key point we have to think about is we have an impulsive man as the 45th President of the United States. Could we be on the brink of World War III?
As a leader of a country, it is your job to make decisions that will help the country prosper and grow. The decision that President Trump made last week has put this country in great danger of being in the line of crossfire. Trump sent out fifty nine missiles to a Syrian airbase to send a warning out to the leader of Syria, Bashar al-Assad. In Syria, the Assad regime has been using chemical weapons that have taken a number of lives of civilians. This has been going on for several years, and while it is not fair, Trump should have not involved the United States in it. I do not know what he was thinking when he made this decision but in simple terms he is basically declaring war.
Trump claims he wants to ‘Make America Great Again’, but so far he is not doing a good job at it. This decision has been the worst out of all of the decisions that he’s made since he became president. Where is Obama when we need him? In order to be president, you should think wisely before making any decisions. He should not have bombed Syria because technically it is not our concern. The treatment and killing of people in Syria is wrong but the way Trump went about his actions was also wrong. He may have sent bombs to the airbase and destroyed Syria’s weapons but who says they do not have more?
Trump recently said in a television interview, “It is vital for the national security of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.’’ He has a point because he has people’s best interest at heart and I applaud him for that. That may be one of the only good qualities he has as president. On the other hand, he should not be sticking his hand into another countries’ business. That is asking for trouble. If you go on someone’s home turf and strike at them, they are definitely going to attack back. Another failure in Trump’s plan is he has no strategy worked out. Everyone knows if you are going to attack someone, you have to have plans for what happens afterwards. We do not know how, when, or where Syria is going to attack us if they decide to strike back.
According to news reports, the launch at the airbase seemed to not be as successful because Syria was still using the airbase after the bombs had dropped. Senator John McCain stated on Face the Nation that, “jets were flying from the base less than 36 hours later.” Trump went into this impulsively. As I have said before, that is not a trait that a president should have. The White House is saying that Trump made this decision based on ‘’emotions’’. When you are the President of the United States, you do not go off of emotions. You base decisions off of critical and tedious thinking. More than 300 million American lives are in his hands. This is not The Apprentice Mr. Trump, this is the real world.
