WPRL 91.7 FM Hosts Annual Toy Drive

With the season of giving just around the corner, Alcorn State University’s (ASU) radio station WPRL 91.7 FM, will be hosting its Annual Christmas Toy Drive beginning on Monday, November 11, 2024 and ending on Friday, December 20, 2024.

WPRL’s Toy Drive was started twelve years ago to support the needs of less fortunate families in the Claiborne and Jefferson County areas during the holiday season. Thanks to the Alcorn family, WPRL can bring smiles to hundreds of children this year once again.

WPRL is currently working with the Claiborne and Jefferson County Departments of Human Services to help make children’s Christmas wishes come true. This year, the station’s staff also aims to connect with local churches and businesses to broaden the Drive’s impact. While the Toy Drive currently serves only two counties, WPRL hopes to expand its reach to additional neighboring counties in the future.

Toy donations are welcomed for children ages 1 to 13, with the goal of providing every
child in need with a special gift this holiday season. This year, the WPRL family is committed to
collecting a substantial amount of toys to ensure that no child is left without a gift. Achieving
this goal is possible through the support of students, faculty and staff.

Jerome Myles, Gospel Music Director of WPRL, stated, “I feel awesome about this event. It’s simply about the children. I really thank God for Charles Edmond, the Operation’s Manager, and Myrtle Hedrick, WPRL’s Administrative Assistant. When I brought the idea to them, they told me to go for it.”

Toys can be donated Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at WPRL’s radio
station which is located behind the Industrial Technology Building. If you are unable to drop off
items that you wish to donate, they can be picked up by one of the staff members. For pickup, call
(601) 877-6290, (601) 877-6594 or send an email to jmyles@alcorn.edu.
