When looking at the cover and the tittle of the EP, I didn’t know what to expect from 2 Chainz. However, after listening to the four track EP, I realize the cover symbolized a deeper meaning. The black and white print cover supports the meaning of the title, ‘The Play Don’t Care Who Makes It,’ which he is simply implying that regardless of race, gender or sexuality in our granted 24 hours, the play doesn’t care who makes it because to the play we’re all the same. All you need to do is put in the work. What’s so likeable about the EP is that 2 Chainz has a deep/raw message but is still able to lyrically relate to today’s generation.

2 Chainz kicks off the EP with “OK B***H” which was produced by The Hit Cartel and June James. He starts off his verse with ‘Used to make hard/make it look easy.’ 2 Chainz carries that message on throughout the entire song and uses his lyrical ability to verbally explain how he’s been through a lot but he got in his zone, locked in and now he only sees up from here.

Track two, “PROUD” has to be the hardest song on the EP. This song is dedicated to his mother who raised him single handedly in the cold streets of Atlanta. “Yeah, I’m just tryna make my mama proud/ I ain’t tryna let my mama down,” 2 Chainz says bluntly. Just as he says, most of us out there don’t want to disappoint our mothers.

Moving forward, to track three “LAND OF THE FREAKS” 2 Chainz decides to pay homage to the ‘Home of the Braves/Land of the Freaks.’ In case you’re lost, Atlanta’s baseball mascot is the Braves and in the 90s, Atlanta hosted a popular spring break festival called ‘Freaknik’ where Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) coincided together to create memorable adventures.

The last track, “LAMBORGHINI TRUCK” is a reflecting song, where 2 Chainz talks about the memories he’s gained over his rap career and his love for Atlanta. He got the title from his love for Lamborghinis but they’re too small so he’s waiting until they make a Lamborghini Truck and if someone asks how many he’s getting, he’ll reply,  “I want all of them.”

Overall, I rate ‘The Play Don’t Care Who Makes It’ 8 stars out of 10 stars. Check out the banger below.
