Alcorn Beats G-Men for Homecoming Victory

Alcorn (3-2, 2-0) entered Spinks-Casem Stadium Saturday, October 9th celebrating its 100 years of football and looking to secure a Homecoming victory over the Grambling State Tigers (2-4, 1-2). This would be no easy task as a resurging Tigers’ team looked to hand the Braves their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) loss.

The Braves scored early in the first quarter when wide receiver LeCharles Pringle caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Felix Harper at the 13:26 mark and with kicker Noah Kiani’s extra point the score was 7-0, Braves. The Tigers responded at the 10:57 mark when kicker Garrett Urban nailed a 45-yard field goal to make the score 7-3, Braves. Not to be outdone, Alcorn scored again, this time at the 6:43 mark when Harper scampered into the end zone on a 14-yard run and with a Kiani PAT (Point After Attempt) the score was now 14-3, Braves.

The second quarter picked up with the ‘Dynamic Duo’ of Harper and Pringle connecting on a 13-yard pass at the 13:48 mark and with Kiani’s extra point the score was now 21-3, Braves. The G-Men mustered up another field goal at the 5:17 mark when Urban scored on a 39-yard field goal making the score 21-6, Braves.

The third quarter saw Alcorn in cruise control as they didn’t score again until the 4:55 mark when Kiani sank a 23-yard field goal to make the score 24-6, Braves. Grambling responded with 1:24 remaining in the quarter when quarterback Noah Bodden threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Darrell Clark and with an Urban PAT the score was now, 24-13, Braves.

The G-Men mustered one last score in the fourth quarter at the 14:18 mark when quarterback Aldon Clark connected with wide receiver Greg White on a 20-yard touchdown pass play and with an Urban extra point the final score was 24-20, Braves.

Statistical leaders for the Braves were Harper, who completed 15 passes for 150 yards. He had 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Running back Niko Duffey had 138 rushing yards while Pringle had 2 touchdowns for 67 yards. Defensively for the Braves, linebacker Nichel Herron had 6 solo tackles.

The Braves next opponent will be the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils (2-3, 1-1) on Saturday, October 16th at 3:00 pm in Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena, Mississippi.
