Alcorn Hires Pruitt as New Women’s Basketball Coach

This week Alcorn State’s strenuous look for a new head women’s basketball coach came to end. The announcement came from Athletic Director Derek Horne as he announced Courtney G. Pruitt as the next head coach of Lady Braves Basketball.

Pruitt is a native of Longview, Texas and most recently was the head basketball coach of the Wiley College Wildcats. In her first season with the Wildcats she had a record of 8-21 but her second season showed a tremendous turn around as the Wildcats finished the season 20-9 and made their first conference tournament in three years. In Pruitt’s 2012-2013 season with the Wildcats she led them to a 29-4 record, their first Red River Conference title in 20 years and a top 25 ranking and a birth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Pruitt was voted 2012-2013 Coach of the Year by the Red River Athletic Coaches Conference and she led the Wildcats to a second conference title in the 2013-2014 season and a Final Four appearance in the NAIA Tournament. Pruitt has compiled a record of 102-23 is her illustrious 10 years of coaching.

Pruitt stated, “Alcorn is a special place and I look forward to working with a tremendous group of student athletes.”
