Alcorn holds BravesFest 2018 on ‘The Reservation’

Alcorn’s Student Government Association (SGA) presented BraveFest Week 2018 between Monday, April 9th through Saturday, April 14th.

BravesFest Week is designed to engage the student body with events and activities that unify. The activities were scheduled to begin on Monday, April 9th with a Braves Family Cook-Out on the Campus Green from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm but due to unforeseen circumstances the event was cancelled.

On Tuesday, April 10th, students hyped up the week with Trap Karaoke in the E.E. Simmons Gymnasium (Old Gym) at 6:00 pm. “The music had everyone energetic and dancing to every song that was sung,” says Kimyia Youngblood, a Freshman Mathematics major from Prentiss, Mississippi. The Karaoke was judged with girls against boys with the girls winning a free pizza.

Wednesday, April 11th, saw things become extremely hilarious at the Comedy Show held at the Old Gym at 6:00 pm. The show featured Emmanuel Hudson, a member of Wild ‘n Out, Darren Brand and Mr. Bankshot. Also, the new inductees of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. and the Delta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. livened up the show with their signature party walks during the intermission of the show.

Thursday, April 12th was the Yard Show held in the Plaza at 6:00 pm which saw members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Phi Alpha, Zeta Phi Beta, Phi Beta Sigma, Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega Psi Phi entertain the crowd with their steps and strolls.

Friday, April 13th was one of the most anticipated days of the week which was the concert held in the Old Gym. The concert began at 7:00 pm and featured Level, Mouse and headliner Moneybagg Yo. “This week was one of the best weeks on the yard. It was an exciting, fantastic week I will never forget,” said JeVya Durr, a Sophomore Psychology major from Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Saturday, April 14th saw the conclusion of the week with the annual Spring Game which pitted the Purple Team against the Gold Team. The game was initially scheduled for 2:00 pm in Spinks-Casem Stadium but due to inclement weather it was changed to 5:00 pm.
