Anifa Mvuemba is a fresh face in the fashion industry as her brand Hanifa is taking the world by storm. Mvuemba is originally from The Democratic Republic of Congo but later relocated to Washington, D.C. Growing up as a creative child, she would often sketch innovative and futuristic designs. It wasn’t until she took a design course in high school that she found her passion for fashion and design. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland to study Fashion Merchandising, but she eventually discontinued her education due to the major not concentrating on design.
She first become noticeable on a global scale when she posted an original design of a dress that she created on social media for her 22nd birthday and everybody loved it which lead to her creating Hanifa, which was a “chic, contemporary and timeless brand for women without limits.”
Hanifa, which was launched in 2012, is known for its bold colors, beautiful textures and curve hugging luxury pieces. In May of 2020 on Instagram Live, Mvuemba premiered her collection called Pink Label Congo and made headlines for being the first designer to do a virtual 3-D fashion show. In November of 2021, Mvuemba debuted her first in-person Hanifa runway show at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. to rave reviews.
