Winning their previous home game against the Alabama State Hornets, the Alcorn State Braves (10-17, 6-9) wanted to keep the momentum going as they competed against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (5-23, 4-10) to wrap up the last home game of the season at the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Monday, February 25th at 7:30 pm.
The first half of the game kept fans on the edge of their seats as both teams traded goals up and down the court. Pulling away slightly, the Braves went in at the half leading the Bulldogs, 29-25. With no room for error, Alcorn came back after the half ready to finish what they started. Though Alabama A&M trailed most of the game, they exhibited tremendous fight as they were outscored by only 2 points in the second half, 32-30. With Alcorn State mustering up an enormous push towards the end of the contest, they were able to be victorious over the Bulldogs, 61-55.
Junior Guard, Maurice Howard led the Braves with 16 points. Trailing behind him was Junior Center, Alonzo Campbell with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore Guard, Troymain Crosby, also chipped in with 11 points and 5 rebounds. The Bulldogs were offensively led by Senior Forward, Andre Kennedy with 17 points and Junior Forward, Evan Wiley with 16 points.
The Braves will be back in action on Saturday, March 2nd as they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to compete against the Southern University Jaguars at the F.G. Clark Activity Center at 5:30 pm.
