Kristina Brown, Miss Alcorn State University 2017-2018, is vying to win Ebony magazine’s annual Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Queen’s competition. HBCU royalty from all over the United States compete by campaigning for votes online. According to Ebony Magazine, “HBCUs were founded to promote black excellence and brilliance and each reigning beauty was elected by her peers and/or school officials to represent those standards for her institution of higher learning.”
Brown, a native of Jackson, Mississippi and Senior Psychology major stated, “It would be an absolute honor to be able to represent my HBCU in Ebony Magazine which is known for sharing positive light over the African American community. It means the world to me to showcase the greatness of Alcorn in that way.”
Brown hosted a social media voting party called “Project 1871” on January 18th asking people to vote at least 71 times. Miss Alcorn continues to be in the Top 15 amongst competitors but the goal is to be included in the Top 10. The queens who receive the Top 10 highest votes will be featured in an upcoming issue of Ebony Magazine.
