Who would’ve known that on April 13, 1985, Los Angeles, California would birth R&B sensation Tyron William Griffin Jr. aka Ty Dolla $ign or Ty$.
Growing up, Ty$ lived with his father, Tyrone W. Griffin Sr. and two siblings, brother Big TC and sister Angel Gold. As a teenager, Ty$ became an active gang member of the Bloods and was homeschooled for high school.
His love for music developed at a tender age and he started off by learning to play the bass guitar, drums, keyboards and a Music Production Center (MPC). Ty$’s father was a member of the band Lakeside and through his father, he got a chance to meet bands like Earth, Wind and Fire and Prince and The Revolution, which fueled his fire for soul music.
Coming into the industry, Ty Dolla $ign was accompanied by his partner Kory and together they signed a record deal with Venus Brown and Buddha Brown Entertainment. Under the deal, they released a mixtape entitled ‘Raw & Bangin’ Mixtape Vol 2’ in 2007. After parting ways with Kory, Ty$ collaborated with Rapper YG in 2010 and rose to stardom following a feature in YG’s hit song “Toot It and Boot It”.
Ty$ then joined YG’s group Pu$haz Ink and released his first solo song “All Star” in 2011. During that time, he co-founded a production team called D.R.U.G.S. In 2012, he signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records and released his first solo mixtape ‘Beach House’ followed by ‘Beach House 2’ on July 1, 2013, which featured superstars such as Wiz Khalifa, Too $hort, Juicy J, Kirko Bangz, etc.
Ty$ also signed with Taylor Gang Records in 2012. In 2013, he toured with A$AP Rocky and Wiz Khalifa on the Under the Influence Tour of Music 2. He is best known for his hit singles “Paranoid,” (which was #29 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2013) “Or Nah” and “Blasé”.
Fast forwarding to today, Ty Dolla $ign’s latest album is entitled ‘Beach House 3’. He has a 12-year-old daughter named Jailynn Griffin and he is dating Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui. Currently, Ty$ resides in Los Angeles, California.
