Office of Career Services and Pre-Professional Programs Hosts Graduate and Professional School Fair

On Thursday, September 30th, the Office of Career Services and Pre-Professional Programs hosted a Graduate and Professional School Fair from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Student Union Ballroom at Alcorn State University (ASU).

The purpose of this event was to provide students at ASU with the resources they will need to be successful post graduation. Upon arrival, students were required to sign in and meet recruiters from various graduate or professional schools. The graduate school participants included the University of Tennessee, Midwestern University, Mississippi College, Grambling State University, Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and more.

“With graduation right around the corner, it is definitely time to make a decision on what’s next in my life. This event got me off to a great start with finding a graduate school. The information each school provided was very helpful and informative. I am thankful to the Office of Career Services for getting these recruiters to Alcorn for us,” said Bremiya Greenwood, Senior Biology major.

After completing four years at the University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy, students will have the opportunity to graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences Degree, Pharmacy Based Immunization Delivery Certification, Medication Therapy Management Certification, or Point of Care Testing Certification. Students will begin their P1 year at the Memphis campus and then have the opportunity to continue their studies at the Memphis, Knoxville, or Nashville campuses. Midwestern University (MU) is home to over 3,000 students on both its Glendale and Illinois campuses. MU is a private, not for profit graduate school offering degrees in Health Sciences. The Illinois campuses offer programs for Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Dental Medicine, Optometry, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology, Biomedical Sciences, and Public Health. Mississippi College (MC) is a small Christian University located in Clinton, Mississippi. MC offers graduate programs in Accounting, Art, Business, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Communications and more. Students are required to submit an official transcript, a standardized test score, and have a 2.5 undergraduate grade point average. To contact MC, students can visit mc.edu/admissions/graduate.

Grambling State University’s College of Educational, Professional, and Graduate Studies offers Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice, Developmental Education, Sports Administration, Mass Communications, Nursing, and more. They also have several Doctoral degree programs in Developmental Education with options in Curriculum and Instruction-Reading, Higher Education Administration, Instructional Systems and Technology, Student Development and Personnel Services. For admission, applicants must submit a completed application, hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, submit transcripts, submit three letters of recommendation, and submit GRE/GMAT scores. Aside from graduate and professional schools being in attendance, there were also career opportunities available for students to choose from. Magee General Hospital in Magee, Mississippi were seeking potential employees for their 44 bed hospital. There are MedSurg, Surgery, and ER job opportunities for nurses. Magee General also has positions available in Radiology, Respiratory, Lab, and more. The hospital promises to pay all employees with $35 an hour. “The Office of Career Services has really done a great job with providing students with different resources and networking opportunities for their futures. The event had a great turn out, but every student should take advantage of the resources that are free and available for us,” Brandon Toson, Senior Food and Nutrition major, said.
