Sigma Chi Iota held its second annual career week Monday, February 06, 2017 – Friday, February 10, 2017 at Alcorn State University on the Lorman campus. Sigma Chi Iota is an honors society for all qualifying students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.3. The purpose of this career week was to serve as an informational about future career opportunities and welcome new members. The week consisted of a series of professional development sessions and more.

The week kicked off on Monday at 8:30 am in the Campus Union Ballroom with  “Mock Interviews” in addition to the “Youth Informational Task Force” which was being held in Dumas Hall from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The mock interviews provided students with the opportunity to practice how an actual interview in the typical work place setting goes.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, the Spring Career Fair was held from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm in the Campus Union Ballroom. Students were invited to come out and meet with employers in a professional setting and explore potential career opportunities and internships. Some of the employers included Walmart, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Air Force, Madison Parish Schools, Vicksburg Police Department, Mississippi Food Corps, Sanderson Farms, United States Army and Mississippi College.

On Wednesday, February 8, 2017, the Spring Teacher Recruitment Fair began at 9:00 am in the Campus Union Ballroom. This event was specifically for those students majoring in Elementary Education or a related field and looking for a career in the educational department. A few of the school districts that were there included Rankin County School District, Meridian Public Schools and Longview Independent School District.

“This was such a great opportunity particularly for Elementary Education majors such as myself. It was very exciting to see that there are school districts in need of educators and the great benefits that most of them offer. I can’t wait to pursue some of these career options after I graduate,” said Janelle Moody, a Senior Elementary Education major from Jackson, Mississippi.

On Thursday, Sigma Chi Iota held its membership induction ceremony in the Gold Room to formally induct and welcome all new members. The week ended on Friday, February 10, 2017 with a Sigma Chi Iota Retreat .
