On September 12, 2018, Simone Joiner was elected Alcorn State University’s Miss Alpha Chi Alpha of Lambda Pi Eta, the official Honor Society of the National Communications Association. Joiner, a Senior Mass Communications major, is the daughter of Imetra and Mark Joiner of Chino, California.

She also serves as the organization’s Vice President and was truly honored to be voted Miss Alpha Chi Alpha by her peers. “It was a great feeling to be inducted into Lambda Pi Eta and to be given this amazing title which has made me academically accomplished,” she stated.
Alcorn’s Mass Communications Department Alpha Chi Alpha Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta began on October 3, 2016. The organization recognizes and honors student’s commitment to the discipline of communication studies while building a strong academic record. To gain membership, students must have already completed 60 hours of college credits, 12 hours in communications, have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 and have a GPA of 3.25 in communications.
As part of her duties, Joiner will be the spokesperson for the organization for communications events including the annual Media Day and Mass Communications Club meetings.

Joiner expressed immense humility for her newfound title and vows to encourage academic responsibility amongst all students in this major. “As Vice President and Miss Alpha Chi Alpha, I have a large role in Lambda Pi Eta but I have an even larger role in this Department. With the added stress and anxiety that college often brings, I want to build a community where we uplift one another and promote academic esteem so others may join this organization.”

On Friday October 5, 2018, Joiner was escorted by Lambda Pi Eta President, D’Vennio Warner, as part of the University’s annual Homecoming Coronation.
