Alcorn State University pitcher Ashley Breal was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s (SWAC) Player of the Week for the week of March 15-March 20 due to her phenomenal exhibition of talent on the softball field.
Breal, who is a 5’8″ junior from St. Martin, Mississippi boasted a 3-1 win-loss record in four games, three of which she started when she played from March 16-20. She had 10 strikeouts in each of her starts going 2-1 in that span and allowed only one earned run (five overall) combined in her four appearances and was credited with the win in each game the Braves played against the Southern University Jaguars during the weekend of March 18-20.
Breal, who leads the SWAC in strikeouts with 73, has the Lady Braves (5-1, 9-15) in second place in the East standings. The Lady Braves next opponent will be the Alabama State University Hornets in Lorman, Mississippi at 2:00 pm on April 1.
