The Junior Class along with the Honors and Pre-Professional Program hosted the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Internship and Scholarship Informational on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the James L. Bolden Campus Union in Room 7. This was a free event that students were encouraged to come out and participate in to gain scholarship and internship information.

Alcorn State University Miss Junior, Moriah Batiest, created this event to inform Alcorn State University students on the opportunities available around the world. She explained, “I strongly believe that being a Thurgood Marshall Scholar could help students of Alcorn State University because I can share my personal testimony with them. I believe the students at our school can receive information better when it comes from one of their peers.” Batiest has also gained firsthand experience by being a part of many TMCF opportunities. She noted how these opportunities have allowed her to enjoy life while achieving academic success. She stated, “I attended the Leadership Institute in October of 2017 and it was a very insightful experience and I would encourage Alcorn students to apply. I was given direct access to employers of different corporations. I had networking opportunities and I attended workshops and seminars. My travel, lodging and meals were all paid for. Also, I was able to meet students from other universities that had similar interests and goals that I did.”

Junior Class President Robert Tatum also explained why being a TMCF scholar has been beneficial to him. He stated, “I have received multiple scholarships from the organization that assisted me in traveling to different conferences. I was offered several internships but I had to turn them down due to better offers from other programs.”
