Alcorn State University’s Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has done it yet again. The chapter celebrated the organization’s Finer Womanhood Week in style. The week included many activities that supported one of the organization’s founding principles of Finer Womanhood.
On Monday, February 22, 2016 the Zetas hosted “Finer Fitness,” a fitness class that was led by member Hali Peterson, 2nd Vice President, Zeta Chapter. Peterson led the participants through various exercises focusing on the core muscles, buttocks, and arms. Tuesday’s event “The GirlZ Room” was cancelled due to inclement weather. The event is said to be rescheduled for a later date and time that will be announced soon.
On Wednesday, February 24th the grand event presented a new take on fashion presentations. The event, “BLU Majesty: A Night of Class,” was held in the ballroom of the James L. Bolden Campus Union and received great crowd participation. The fashion show went through four scenes of appropriate and inappropriate clothing for formal occasions, business events, and casual wear. There was also a date scene demonstrating proper actions during a date.
Brianna Mazion, a Freshman Pre-Nursing major, stated, “I really enjoyed this event and I would attend something like this again. It was a really creative way to sell the do’s and don’ts concept.”
Orchestrated by Shirissa Thompson, Event Coordinator, Zeta Chapter, the week concluded on Thursday, February 25th with a Black History program in the J.D. Boyd Library Auditorium.
Thompson stated, “We are having this program because Black History is not only about the past, it is about the present and the future. This program uplifts the talents of students that we have on campus.”
The program was co-hosted by Thompson and Krystain Coleman, Treasurer, Zeta Chapter. Student participants in the event held the audience with captivating songs and spoken word. The program concluded with a group picture of everyone in attendance.
