College holds many difficulties for college students with a tight budget, but keeping up with the latest fashion trends should not be one of the difficulties.

Dressing well on a budget can be a challenge, but with just a little money management, watchful eye and great game plan, all college students can stay trendy.

College students can still shop at brand name stores to stay with the trends but clothes are cheaper when they are out of season. Buying clothing from designer’s past’s seasons can cut cost in a huge way.

There are also many other options that college students can take advantage of to stay up-to-date with trends.

Shopping at stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Stein Mart are great ways to get popular clothes at cheaper prices instead of shopping at high-end department stores such as Belk, Dillards or Macy’s. The way a person is dressed speaks without them uttering a word. Dressing according to your finances is key.

Dressing nice does not mean we have to break our pockets to do so. Consignment stores are a great way to buy on a budget. You can sell your clothing as well and have extra money. You can also sign up to receive text messages from the store that will alert you of any sales or special discounts.

While dressing on a budget, thrift stores are a great place to get the bang for your buck. The Salvation Army, Goodwill, and other thrift stores often receive great clothing that still have designer tags attached to them. TJ Maxx and Marshall’s receive an overflow of designer merchandise for a fraction of the original cost. This is a great way to buy purses and shoes.

A little time and effort in favorite boutique’s clearance racks will give you a chance to purchase clothing that you may not be able to afford. Always look at the clearance racks at boutiques. You never know what you’re going to find. Many of the smaller local boutiques have “flash” sales that you can get on your phone by signing up for text messages.

When you do shop retail make a list of things you need to avoid overspending on. Look on Pinterest for ideas on how to stretch your wardrobe such as having “clothing swap” parties with your friends. Anything you don’t wear or want to get rid of swap it out with a friend. Make sure this spring you are dressed for the season. As the great Bill Cunningham states, “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.” So remember that your outer appearance and attire will allow you to take on whatever task is coming your way. Remember to be fashionable and frugal this spring.
