Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Zeta Chapter, held their annual Fill the Boot! Fundraiser Wednesday, January 16th in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Hall from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Members of the Fraternity gathered in the lobby of the dining hall, better known as the cafe, with a blue boot to ask students, faculty and staff members for their support in the form of a dollar for their fundraiser.

The Fraternity has hosted the fundraiser for the past two years in alliance with their sister sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Chapter, in an effort to raise money to support Sickle Cell Awareness and this year was no different. The Fraternity was looking for a new way to service the community and decided that a Fill the Boot! Fundraiser would be the way to go after receiving inspiration for the idea from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Phi Chapter’s similar fundraiser in the past.

“We are doing a Fill the Boot! Fundraiser for Sickle Cell Awareness at St. Jude for the kids there. They did it with the AKA’s last year and they raised over $300 dollars,” said Robert Walker Jr., President of the Alpha Zeta Chapter. Despite the great amount of money fundraised before them the Alpha Zeta’s still set forth to do their best and make their own record.

“This is actually our second time doing this fundraiser and we’re just glad to be back. In the past we’ve raised over $60 dollars and we’re just hoping to break that record this year and in the upcoming years,” Walker said.

In the future the Fraternity plans to have more Fill the Boot! Fundraisers and annually break their personal fundraising records.
